Braggin About Dad's Job! The First Energy Sammis Sack Project..

Okay! I am so totally proud of my dad, mom, brother, cousins....because this was not an EASY job and sometimes I don't think it was all that FUN! I am going to brag a bit...so bare with me! My dad is one of these amazing workers who can fix a job up...that is why he gets called to the hard ones! He does NOT mess around or put up with TOO much BS (his words! lol) They have been in WV for over a year and has not been home to Utah since Jan 08!!!! (except for 2 days when Brady came home and my dad came home for a few days to go to Uncle Cecil's funeral, but we didn't get to see him so it doesn't count!) This job has REALLY consumed his life!!!! The good news is THEY ARE ON THEIR WAY HOME!!! Anthony, Hailee and Kyson should be by my house on Wednesday March 3rd and Mom and Dad who had meetings in Kansas City will be to my house late Saturday March 7th! So Freaking EXCITED...can't ya tell! In all of my excitement though...I wanted to share a bit about what my dad & brother's job is......the following are some pieces out of the company news letter....This job was HUGE!.....and costly! The big stack on the picture is the one they have been working on and will be complete this summer..dad's job though is over..yay! The one you see in the back ground is actually taller (1000') but smaller around and a little bit aways from the first, that is why it looks so small. The new stack is 830' tall and 94' in circumfrence. Pretty amamzing. My brothers job was to help install those round things at the top and fiberglass the inside...he was attached to a protective harness and worked from the top down..(same with Whit and Tom). In the picture below there is a tiny cage that they would get on to go to work....makes my stomach queezy for it is several hundred feet in the air! Good Job my family! Love you and CANNOT wait to see you all soon! Dad caught up this job with his crew that mostly follows him from sight to sight! Way to go dad and crew!

"The first Energy Sammis new stack project is located near Stratton, Oh which is just over an hour west of Pittsburgh, Pa. This project began with Pullman's mobilization on July 16, 2007 and is currently approximately 80% complete. The Sammis Plant, belonging to First Energy/Ohio Edison, is an existing seven unit facility with a nominal power output of 2200 Mw. The new stack project is apart of an Air Quality Control System initiative to reduce the SO2 emissions to within specified limits.
This stack is (my dad is 10th from the left standing in a checkered shirt) the larges new construction project Pullman currently has in the field. The outside diameter of the stack is 94' reaching to a height of 830'. The shell is made up of approximately 1.4 MILLION pounds of reinforcing steel and over 13,000 cubic yards of concrete. There are 3 fiber reinforced plastic liners (FRP) inside the stack, each with the diameter of 32'. Many talented and hard working (My Dad ~ sight superintendent, my brother Anthony~night foreman), cousins Tom and Whit~part of the crew and office manager...my mom ~ to name a few!!!) individuals have contributed to the success of the project to date. The construction Team, headed by Bob Duncan(the main boss) has contributed to success by planning, allocating field leaders and performing oversight of all construction activities to ensure a productive and safe job sight. Pullman's engineering team has contributed to success by keeping the concept of constructablility at the forefront during the design process and implementing several unique platform lifts. All of which were drawn by Pullman's talented staff of detailers. Pullman's home office management (my mom is the office manager on sight) has contributed to success in many ways including payroll, procurement, project management and scheduling, as well as document control and client relations."

So proud...had to brag...hope y'all don't mind! You see what makes this even more amazing is...my dad is a self taught man! He has bits and pieces of classes due to on the job training but NO degree! His classes were the job....He just knows his stuff ! And has worked super hard to get where he is at today! Same for my brother! Way to go GUYS! I wish I had more pictures and better ones....as soon as mom gets here I will!
